Answering The Brief

TM Designs worked closely with Vero Fabrics to refurbish the bedrooms and suites at the Marylebone. The brief was to create a custom coloured seamless stripe and a printed sheer which would reflect the same proportions as the curtain when the curtains were drawn. Custom colours were chosen to work with the existing carpet in the rooms. We worked closely with the curtain maker to supply the fabric as and when the rooms were available to install. We also were able to scale up the drops, where some of the windows were that bit taller.

Design Process

We had worked with TM Designs and The Doyle Collection on the custom window treatments at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin so understood the scope of the project from budgets, timings and the style required. In the case of the Marylebone, the look was a nod to the 70’s in colour and style. The stripes were designed to work with the scale of the furniture in the room and the geometric design of the carpet also had to be considered. Once the Stripe had been approved, we were able to design and manufacture the printed sheer which worked in tandem with the curtains. The sheer was woven in Turkey as 300cm width was required. However the curtain fabric was woven in England.

The Specification

The fabric was woven at one of our mills based in the UK using the finest FR yarns. The design was woven in 140cm width panels at a height of  approx. 2.5m and then simply sewn together by the curtain maker.

To meet the FR certification required the fabric was woven using inherently FR yarns which passed BS5867 Part 2 Type B

The fabric was woven and supplied at 4-6 week intervals to accommodate the curtain maker and the installation. We were also able to change the height of some of the panels for some of the suites in the hotel too.

Conclusion

Working closely with our highly skilled manufacturers in the UK, we were able to ‘value engineer’ the fabric to work within the contractor’s budget and time frame. All the sourcing, dying and certification and delivery was managed by Vero Fabrics. Meetings with the interior designer and the curtain maker on site ensured that the brief was met on time and on budget. Our fabrics are woven in England which gives us greater control at all stages of production. We also benefit from weaving to order, so we can supply extra fabric whenever needed quickly and the dye colour is never out of stock.
